Cigar & Scripture Journal
A journal to both record your meditations on scripture and rate the cigars you're smoking! It's a place to both reflect and review the things you're learning both about God's Word and his gift of premium tobacco.
From the Welcome:
"In the ancient book of Ecclesiastes, the Preacher writes that, "There is nothing better for a person than that he should eat and drink and find enjoyment in his toil. This also, I saw, is from the hand of God" (Ecclesiastes 2:24, ESV).
It is from this ancient book and it's explanation of how we spend so much time chasing after "smoke" (Hebrew: "hevel") that our Instagram account sprouted. There are so many things in life that are like smoke-- things we chase and attempt to hold onto but find them eluding our grasp. They turn out to be like trying to hold onto smoke!
But not everything in life has to feel this way. Often, fi we let things be what they were intended to be- temporary enjoyments instead of foundations for our identity, purpose, and meaning-- we can find them being like a good cigar or a great cup of coffee. They are something we savor and enjoy for the moment that we have it.
But then there are things very unlike smoke. The Preacher calls these "nails firmly fixed" (Ecclesiastes 12:11, ESV). The Word of God fits into this category. tI is true, lasting, and stable. tI is something worthy of looking to for identity, purpose, and meaning.
It is our prayer that this journal becomes a place for you to record your thoughts, reflections, and to grapple with both the eternal truths and the temporary enjoyments that God gives.
May your heart find and pursue wisdom in these pages, just like the Preacher did in his!
Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.
Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
